Gallery Profile
James Freeman Gallery exhibits contemporary painting,
photography and sculpture by young artists from Europe
and Asia.
Our exhibition schedule presents a combination of curated
group shows and solo exhibitions with both represented
and invited artists. The focus is on presenting artists
who articulate original thinking and art-historical awareness
with technical and aesthetic power. We work very closely
with our core stable of artists, and take an active role
in helping them achieve long-term growth and success.
Alongside the gallery programme, we exhibit at fairs
in both the UK and Asia, and work with a network of galleries,
curators, and collectors to create profile-building opportunities
for our artists at international level. In this respect,
we have a particular focus on Asia, helping our artists
to establish a presence for themselves in the important
art economies of tomorrow.
Part of the gallery’s
activity also includes discovering and nurturing artists
at an early stage of their career,
and providing them with a professional framework within
which to develop and become established within the market.
The gallery has a track record of identifying emerging
talent that other galleries have shied away from, but
who have then gone on to establish themselves and develop
a strong market following.
History
Founded in 2003, the gallery
originally focused on exhibiting
emerging artists,
providing them with a professional framework within which
to develop. In December 2008 the gallery expanded and
refurbished its space on Upper Street. In October 2010
the name changed to James Freeman Gallery.
