Katrin Moye

Biography

Katrin Moye’s work focuses on the history of European decorated ceramics. Incorporated into her intricately decorated pieces are contemporary political, cultural and personal commentaries depicted in an often humorous and light-hearted way. The research element of her practice is clear to see in her work; many of her pieces are directly linked to examples of historic ceramics found in collections at museums such as the Courtauld Institute and V&A in London, the Bargello Museum in Florence and the Maiolica Museum in Deruta, Italy.

Her background as a student of Art History and English Literature is pivotal to her approach – these dual interests in the history of objects and images combined with linguistics and narrative are used by the artist as a lens through which she shares her observations about current events and personal experiences, linking them with equivalents from the past.

In 2017-18 she was Artist in Residence at Nottingham University’s Lakeside Arts Centre, which led to her developing the concept-led work she is known for today. Her ‘Menopause in Maiolica’ collection was shown at the Crafts Council’s ‘Collect Open’ at Somerset House in 2024, and pieces in this series were acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum as well as by national and international collectors. Her work can be seen in various institutions in the UK, including the V&A London, the Oriental Muesum in Durham, the Williamson Museum in Birkenhead and Shandy Hall in Yorkshire.
