Charles Freger’s Cimarron works look at the African diaspora in the Americas. The images are dedicated to the theme of the masquerade, describing the legacy of slavery across the Americas and the creolisation of cultures that have developed. Masks, make-up, costumes, ornaments and accessories, African, indigenous and colonial cultures all intermingle in a centuries-old syncretism that is distinctive to the New World.
