Empress Josephine 1763-1814. When Josephine married Napoleon, she was widowed and had two children. By all accounts Napoleon was completely devoted to her, while Josephine appears to have been less enthusiastic. She only reluctantly visited him on his grand campaign of conquering Europe. She did not have children by him and Napoleon eventually left her to have children with Marie Louise of Austria. A strange fact however is that more than Napoleon’s children, Josephine’s went on to marry into the high Aristocracy, making Josephine related to the Royal Houses of Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, Norway, Luxembourg as well as being grandmother to Napoleon III.
