Overview

To welcome 2016, we are pleased to present The Silk, a group exhibition that gives a snapshot preview of some of the shows we have lined up for the coming year.

The exhibition introduces Seren Morgan Jones, a young Welsh painter for whom women are a central theme. She combines classical painterly language with a contemporary feminist twist to create portraits that address the invisibility of women’s stories in history – as if these were the portraits that should have been painted, of women who should never have been overlooked.

We also have stunning new work by Claire Partington, inspired by Tudor Majolica tiles which Claire has adapted with her own drawings to create contemporary historical Delftware. Claire has an exciting year ahead: while her work is currently on display at Musee Ariana in Geneva until 28 February and Halle St Pierre in Paris until 13 March, she will also have work at ‘Dark opulence-divine decadence’ at Kasteel Van Gaasbeek in Belgium, and a number of other exhibitions set to further raise her burgeoning profile.

Mackie will also have new work on show, after a very successful 2015 that included a sell-out exhibition with us, work entering the Ivy collection, and an exhibition at Simmons & Simmons as part of their Recent Acquisitions. We will have a superb new large ‘sunset’ painting, shown above. At the same time his work will be on show at the W. Gordon Smith prize at the Dovecot Gallery, Edinburgh.

Nicolas Freytag will be showing a new large work, Pastorale, one of a suite of new paintings based on the works of Boucher and Poussin but infused with Nico’s distinctive decadent edge.

We will also have new work from Vasilis Avramidis, Marta Corada, Christopher Gee, and Jon Braley.
