V&A Acquisition: Rebecca Stevenson
After completing the V&A’s Shifting Perspectives residency, the Victoria & Albert Museum has acquired Rebecca Stevenson’s ‘Miracle’. Her creations during the residency were inspired by Room 64A and the Medieval and Renaissance Galleries to breathe fresh life into traditional concepts.
Laura Chase, Curator of Sculpture 1800-Now at the Victoria & Albert Museum, says of their recent acquisition of Rebecca’s work:
‘We are absolutely delighted to have acquired ‘Miracle’ as a lasting testament to Rebecca’s outstanding residency display in the Medieval and Renaissance Galleries earlier this year. ‘Miracle’ resonates deeply with the V&A’s historic collections in both style and meaning, and we are thrilled to welcome Rebecca into the expanding group of pioneering contemporary sculptors represented in the Museum’s permanent collection.
In celebration of the new acquisition, James Freeman Gallery presents ‘Forbidden Fruit’, a new show online running from 25th October – 24th November. The exhibition contains a collection of both wax and bronze creations that present a contemporary interpretation of Baroque memento mori.
